Mobile Phone Driver Installation

Modem driver installation

If you are using a DKU-5 or CA-42 cable or Bluetooth wireless technology, you must install modem drivers for your phone. Follow the instructions below.

Precondition with a DKU-5 or CA-42 cable: The cable drivers are already installed into the PC. With a CA-42 cable, the cable drivers are installed automatically with Nokia PC Suite, but with a DKU-5 cable you have to install them into your PC before you install Nokia PC Suite. See the instructions in the section Taking cable connection into use.

To install the modem drivers:

  1. Connect a compatible phone to the PC using a DKU-5 or CA-42 cable or Bluetooth wireless technology.

  2. In the Windows Control Panel, select Phone and Modem Options.

  3. In the Phone and Modem Options, select Modems > Add.

  4. The next dialog asks if you want Windows to detect your modem. Select Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list. Click Next.

  5. The next dialog asks you to select the modem you want to install. Select Nokia from the manufacturer list and your Nokia modem from the list on the right. Click Next.

  6. In the next dialog, choose to use only Selected Ports. Select the serial port to be used and click Next. See below for instructions on how to select the correct port number either with Bluetooth wireless technology or with a connectivity cable.

  7. Click Finish when the installation is complete. Your modem is now visible in the modem list. Click OK to close the Phone and Modem Options window.

You can now see the selected modem on the settings wizard list.

To determine which serial port to use with Bluetooth wireless technology:

Use the same serial port that you have configured to be used in Dial-Up Networking Service.

To determine which serial port to use with a connectivity cable (a DKU-5 or CA-42 cable):

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel and select System.

  2. Select the Hardware tab. In the Hardware tab, select Device Manager.

  3. In Device Manager, open the Ports branch.

  4. Check which serial port should be used when installing the modem:

  5. If you are using a DKU-5 cable and have installed it correctly, you can see Port 1 on Nokia Adapter under the Ports branch. Use the serial port that is in parentheses after Port 1 on Nokia Adapter.

  6. If you are using a CA-42 cable and have installed it correctly, you can see Nokia CA-42 USB under the Ports branch. Use the serial port that is in parentheses after Nokia CA-42 USB.

If you are using infrared in Windows XP, install the modem drivers according to the instructions given in the section Using your phone as a modem.
