LOFTHOUSE GATE WMC:
I’M BACK: Thanks a lot to all those readers who
rang to ask if I was okay because of my column’s absence for the last
couple of weeks – due to early Christmas deadlines and work
commitments.
ST SWITHIN’S COURT: Bernard Smith won the Monday raffle in the week
commencing January 5. Dora Rowley and Peggy Stringer won on Wednesday
and Thursday. Frank Barker won the first forecast with Celia Johnson
collecting the second one.
AREA PANEL: The next meeting for the Altofts, Outwood, Stanley and
Wrenthorpe committee is on Tuesday at Outwood Memorial Hall at 7pm.
There will be presentations by Prof John Rodwell from Lancaster
University and the React programme manager Tom Handley on “Outwood
Ghost Project” and the identification and revival of Outwood’s
ancient forest. Other issues on the agenda are community chest
applications, Area Panel officers’ report and councillors’ feedback.
There will be a question and answer session. Everyone is welcome. Ring

LEE MOUNT METHODISTS: Preacher at Sunday’s 10.30am service will be the
Rev Dr Roger Granger who will also give sacrament.
YEE HA! There is an American line-dance night with Brenda Gilliver of
the Outlaws and Inlaws, with a faith supper at Lofthouse Methodist
Church on Leeds Road on Saturday January 24 at 7.30pm. Admission is £3.
DIARY DATE: There will be a coffee morning in aid of the Lofthouse
Methodist Church Women’s Fellowship in the schoolroom on Saturday
January 31 from 10am to noon, with stalls including a bring and buy and
cakes. Admission is 50p.
NICE ONE: There will be a concert in memory of the
late Ronnie Bailey at Lofthouse Gate WMC on Thursday January 29 at
7.30pm starring Jonathan Carroll, Michaela May, Harry (Mr Smooth) Clarke
and Funny Bones. Tickets are £1.50, with all proceeds to Stanley Health
Centre and Pinderfields Hospital. Phone 01924 824108 for details.
LOFTHOUSE GATE WMC: Maggie’s Mad Cows were
winners of the four free pints on the four-record challenge with the
Farm close runners-up. Mel’s Marauders collected the free gallon of
beer in a tiebreak with Karen’s Gang in the general knowledge quiz.
Ann rounded off her birthday night by winning four bottles of lager in
the quickie quiz. Caroline Seymour is providing a superb night of
entertainment tomorrow night. Membership subscriptions are now due.
MEETING: Lofthouse Gate WMC Golf Society is
holding its AGM in the club on Thursday January 29 at 8pm. All questions
for inclusion at the meeting must be raised by members and submitted to
a committee member as soon as possible. Alternatively they may be
written on the sheet on display in the clubhouse. All membership fees
are to be collected by April.

FAME AT LAST:
Outwood Community Video was invited to do some filming at the Mining
Museum along with the BBC1 Inside Out programme. Their film was shown
on BBC1 on January 6, 2002.
Anyone interested in joining the club or
just going along to see what happens is invited to a meeting in the
Memorial Hall on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm.
