Margaret & Brian's Dog 'Scruff'  (18.5 years old - 3 legs since 2 yrs old)

Sadly, 'Scruff' departed this world later this month  (January, 2004) - Mel via Margaret

Hi Mel
This is a nice picture of scruff, in the summer she sits behind all the large plant pots to get some shade, and of course we have to pass her to get in the house for food and drinks so she always knows where we are!!

When she was about 2 our daughter had taken Scruff to her house as we were going out for a long spell, Janet decided to bring scruff back to us on the bus, so she had Scruff sat on her knee on the bus seat, when the bus approached the stop scruff made a bolt to the bus doors, which the driver had left open as it was a very hot day, poor scruff was so excited to get off she just jumped and her lead caught on the bottom of the door frame, and dragged her under the bus wheels, she was too quick for Janet, anyway Janet came running to tell us what had happened, I rang the vet, it was 4.30 Saturday tea time, he said bring her round and I will look at her, he said he could amputate the leg, but not until Monday, he gave her pain relief and strapped the leg up, I went to see her on the Sunday am, she came running to me with her tail wagging behind her, and the leg dragging along the floor, unaware of her terrible injury, thank goodness.

She had her operation on the Monday am and I was able to bring her home the tea time, she was great she never looked back, never complained and after a few weeks could still run as fast as any other dog.

As with your Sonny, she only has limited sight and hearing, but can smell a chocolate biscuit a mile away !!

We also have a family of ducks and a swan that come every day for breakfast, dinner and tea.

The swan likes chips, mashed potatoes, rice and bread preferably brown bread!!

hope you enjoy the tales of our animals.

all the best  Margaret  (03/01/04)

Hi Mel,

Thanks for your mail, you asked if we live on the river side, no we have a stream at the end of our garden, but as you can see from the pictures it can be pleasure and a pain. We terraced it with railway sleepers, when the flood came it washed them all away, so it was back to the drawing board, so now we have big stones to weigh them down in the winter. So we are very limited to what we can do as we know it will flood several times a year, but in the summer it is a great spot.

I still have not found my Ultra Bermuda picture.

Bye Margaret  (05/01/04)
