Hard Drive Fault    www.melashton.co.uk/hp

On September 28th, 2005, I purchased a hp Pavilion Desk top computer from Staples
(Crown Point Retail Park, Leeds).

The computer operated ok until recently when it would not boot up - having been closed down correctly the previous day.

All attempts to correct the problem have failed:

Following the initial screen, a "Disk Read Error" is displayed.

All attempts to restore the system by using F10 from the initial screen fail.

Using F1 the BIOS information is displayed;

Checking the ST3200822AS hard drive:
Using the suggested SMART Short Self Test (and Extended Self-Test) gives:
Failed  Self-Test Status Value 7 (Completed with the read element of the test failed)

Computer returned to HP via Staples Store.  Repaired and returned within a week.
