GEORGE  CHAPMAN
(picture year unknown but framed by 'Boots Picture Framing Department' in 1962)
9 Ogle Road, Flamborough

George Chapman was, for some time, the 'Flamborough Bell Ringer'  -  hence the name of one of his dogs, (pictured above), that he referred to as 'Bell Nell' as opposed to his later 'Yellow (Labrador) Nell'.

His last dog, a cross-bred labrodor type, was called 'Socks' in view of her white paws.  When George had to go into Driffield Hospital, George asked me and my ex-wife Meg if we would look after Socks for him.

He gave us her collar, her lead, a whistle and £ 1.00 for her keep - I seem to remember that the £1.00 didn't last very long !   For some years, we had been friends with George as regular visitors to the 'Royal Dog & Duck' pub in Flamborough.  Sadly, George never returned to his council bungalow in Flamborough and was buried in Flamborough church grounds.
About 1982  ?  can someone verify the date and his D.O.B. from the church yard ?

Other regular customers to the Dog & Duck were:
Mrs Twigg, (the late Billy Twigg's wife), Mr Wilde and his son Bill, myself (Melvin Ashton), my ex-wife Meg(an), her mother Mon(ica) and Mon's partner the late Ron Willows.
